The New York Mets Baseball Podcast is where fans of the New York Mets pro baseball team get their fix.

Six and four on this road trip is great.
Heard your question on Carlos Beltran and whether or not he can bust out for .300/30/120…might be a tall order. Forgetting the salary for a moment, shouldn’t we be happy with a solid, even great centerfield and .285/25/90? Although, having sadi that, a healthy Mike Cameron would give us better thatn that at the plate and a really great centerfield. I fear that Carlos will never live up to the hype…unfortunate for him…he’s very, very good ballplayer…maybe not a great one.
I can’t help but think that we could be getting a lot more for that kind of money. I like Carlos’ defense and his threat in the middle of the lineup. And I certainly don’t want to make a change in ‘06.
The Catch-22 here is that a $15 million a year contract is only tradeable if the person is playing up to their potential. And then we wouldn’t be considering a trade anyway.
Rob-
I really enjoy the show. Like you, I’ve been a Mets fan for a long time- since 1975. My dad never had trouble getting us field level box seats. We were never back farther than the 8th row. My favorite Met then was Ed Kranepool.
Now it’s Jose Reyes- there is nothing more exciting in baseball than watching him hit one in the gap in right-center for an automatic triple. You haven’t mentioned the number of walks he’s taken over the past 8 games or so. If he can get his OBP up to .350 he’s going to score A TON of runs.
Thanks for listening in. Reyes has definitely got things going in the right direction. His OBP has been a disappointment in the past due to impatience and a bad swing. He’s got to realize that he’s not supposed to be a slugger but a table setter who uses his speed on the bases.
Alright — just got done listening to this podcast and now it’s time for the comments.
I didn’t get to watch the game where Trachsel pitched, but i’ve heard bad things.
I did however catch Zambrano’s game. And this will be the only time (save a miracle) that you will hear me say he pitched a great game. The other thing that floored me was that Jorge Julio, pitched great as well. I didn’t mind the loss, but I did appreciate the effort in the pitching by the 2 people I loathe.
Kaz Matsui….whew….Kaz…Matsui. I will never like this man. Never. If he had a .335 BA, with 45 homers, i’d think it’d be perfect bait to dump him on another team.
My boy David Wright is slowing down a little, but I think he’ll bust out soon, bringing with him Cliff Floyd.
I’m still impressed by April, and now here comes May to surprise me some more.
Let’s Go Mets!!
-Gary from AK
whats going on with david wright
David, like many of the Mets hitters is slumping right now. Cliff Floyd’s average has dipped below .200. Seems like Endy Chavez is their only hot hitter right now. Somethings got to break. I’ll be talking on the current situation after tonight’s game. One thing I do know is that the Mets 3-4-5 bats need to get hot soon.
david finally broke out and got four hits against the pirates. that was a really big win for the mets before the braves come in
