The New York Mets Baseball Podcast is where fans of the New York Mets pro baseball team get their fix.

Victor Zambrano just got taken out of the game in the second inning. John Maine just went to the DL and who knows when Bannister will be back. This is very troubling. The Mets will be well served to move Aaron Heilman into the rotation. The rest of the bullpen has stepped up, even Jorge Julio, who got the win last night. What a terrific game!!!
My chief concern in the bullpen right now is Billy Wagner. He gave up another home run and would have lost the game had not Cliff Floyd bailed him out in the bottom of the inning. Wagner strikes a lot of guys out and looks good when he’s on but he has not pitched as well as we have expected. Please don’t blame the weather- it’s going to be cold in October.
Wagner has blown three saves but has been spared a lot of negativity because two of the games the Mets came back to win. In the game they lost (the second game of the season) his performance was overshadowed by Julio’s meltdown.
Now I expect Billy to pitch well in New York, but he’s still got to demonstrate more consistency.
The Mets pull it out anyway!
This was a great win. Especially with the possibility of Jose Lima throwing tomorrow. Either way, we win this series.
No doubt that Wagner is on double secret probation. He needs to convert his next ten save chances in a row in order to win back our confidence.
Wow yesterdays game was amazing. It was like the old power and the new one battling it out for supremacy in the east. I think that game completely changes the dynamic between these two teams. The Mets did to the Brave what the Braves usually have done to Mets.
Wagner had 3 blown saves all of last year and already has 3 this year barely a month in. He needs to not blow another dave till after the all-star break or maybe they should just let Sanchez close.
The management needs to make a deal soon for another top starter. Its great how well the team has been dealing with adversity this year, but I doubt that they can keep it up for a whole year where 3 out of 5 starts are going to be a struggle.
A huge win. Time to start looking at underperforming teams with high priced pitchers. The Mets will be a buyer before the trading deadline. The fans need to have some faith in Willie Randolph and Omar Minaya. They’ve made some smart moves so far and I think they’re going to do what it takes to get better during the season.
I think it’s my fault. It must be.
All of last season I prayed that something would befall upon Zambrano, and lo and behold here we go. Let me just make it clear, I was only hoping for a stint on the 15 day DL — not the entire season. So it can’t all be my fault.
Today’s game — well, it went something like this.
We gave the Braves some bats, bent over, and let them run full speed into us.
Still took the series though. Let’s see how we do against the Phil’s.
The Zambrano thing is a blow, especially because Maine and Bannister are on the DL.
I heard Omar Minaya on the pre game show stating that Aaron Heilman will not move to the starting rotation. I can’t see how that is possible. Especially with what we expect to get from Jose Lima. And that’s absolutely nothing.
I’ll be talking some more before the Phillies series, which is shaping up to be another big one for the Mets. At least Pedro and Glavine are lined up. More on the next podcast.
Well I wanna wish Zambrano bon-voyage I hope his career goes better when he comes back I just hope its not with the Mets. I hope we can get a good pitcher like Zito or Willis I just hope we dont trade Milledge for either of them. Id hope they would bring up Pelfrey before they move Heilman out of the rotation because with Heilman, Sanchez, and Wagner the Mets have an outstanding bullpen.
Im just gonna keep my fingers crossed that Omar makes an outstanding move to bolster this rotation, one that doesnt involve Milledge.
It’s to bad zambrano got hurt he started to look a little better although who knows if that would have kept up… Maine is out now to, Lima was just brought up for the last game of the braves seris and did sub-par but I’ll give him the benifit of the doubt that it was is first start in the majors for a while and it was against the braves on a sunday never the less where last week they had a chance to sweep and the braves were able to capture the sunday game so if history repeats itself and it did Lima really didnt have a chance oh well I’ll take two out of three from the braves anytime. But, speaking of two out of three it would be really nice to do that or even be able to sweep the Phils who are coming on pretty strong, so we’re gunna have to slow them down and increase our 4 game lead over them. Now for some players I wanted to comment on, Cliff Floyd-Cliff is just getting off to an unlucky start, all I hear is people bashing him because he’s not doing what he did last year, well he is hitting the ball hard it’s just not falling right now but it will. I’m glad we have the fire power in this line up to be able to pick up Cliff through this rough patch, he’ll be fine. Jorge Julio, let me tell you I hated it when the mets traded benson for julio and Maine. I mainly didn’t like it because I thought benson was a quality #3 starter and it now looks like we could have used him now with all the injures to our rotation. In the begging of the season when Julio was struggling what I thought was going to happen, happened… But know I think willie has utilized him well to gain his confidence back and can you believe it Jorge Julio with a win and a save against the Atlanta Braves! I couldn’t believe it but maybe he is coming around lets hope he stays on the right track. David Wright- I know David has been in a little slump but people are worrying about it to much he’s a young superstar IN THE MAKING he’s not a superstar yet so dont get all over him if he doesn’t have a good game he is to good to fall into any kind of deep slump or what willie calls it a funk. All I can say about his errors are that they’re apart of the game everybody makes errors and it is only the beggining of his second full season in the bigs he just needs to work on the D a little bit more but I garuntee next season he will be one of the most solid defensive players in the majors. This kid is amazing 1 more quote note about a player Jose Reyes all I have to say is this kid is 22 and he is another superstar in the making let him do his thing he’ll get his on base % up to where it needs to be and he’ll steal his 70 bases n score over 100 runs this season. Sorry I’ve writen so much there Rob haha I just listened to your last podcast and had to drop by to let you know what I thought thanks for the comment hope to hear about this 1 on the next podcast because I’m interested to hear what you have to say in response to all this thanks again Rob
