Where New York Mets Fans Get Their Fix

New York Mets Podcast #14

Licking our wounds from a bad week. The Mets drop three consecutive series to the Phillies, Brewers and now the Cardinals. The back end of the pitching rotation is mush with Jose Lima and Jeremi Gonzalez pulling up the rear. And what a bad omen, wasting a good performance by Steve Trachsel and losing 1-0 last night.

Now is the time that the Mets bats need to wake up and support an ailing pitching staff. I would kill for a Billy Wagner save opportunity. There’s not denying that the Mets need to make a strong statement by beating the Yankees this weekend and in the process, maintainig their slim lead in the NL East.

With the least at only two games over the Phillies, this is a do or die weekend for the Mets. I like the pitching match ups, but will the Mets bats sing a sweet song? Damn, I hope so.

Let’s Go Mets!

  1. WOW! What a game friday night!!! I was glued watching it. Disappointed in the first inning, but my spirits were quickly raised.

When Delgado was walked to get to Wright, I was a little giddy. I remember in an interview last season, Wright said that whenever a pitcher walked Floyd to get to him, it made him upset and he would want to prove to the pitcher that it was a mistake…and last night he proved it.

Watching the game today and it’s 3-0 top of the 6th. Awesome!

  2. Top of the 9th….Wagner in. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! What in the hell is going on with this guy. One night he shines, the next night he’s walking in runs. I hope Pedro takes him out back with a rubber hose after the game to straighten him out. This is nuts.

  3. Great once again Pedro pitches a gem and Wagner blows it… they need to just keep Sanchez in there to close out games, this is insane.

  4. A real bummer. Not sure why Willie stayed with Wagner when it was obvious that he had nothing. Mets need to win it in the bottom of the 9th again.

  5. Terrible loss today. Wagner collapses, Pedro loses a much deserved W and the bullpen puts in a lot of work. Glavine will need to throw a complete game to win tomorrow unless the Mets score a ton of runs.

  6. Right before Wagner got on the mound, there was a commercial for some stocktrading/investment company on tv. They were touting their stock knowledge and how well their company performed. But in fine print at the bottom, it read “Past performance is not indicative of the future.”

    Ironic.

  7. This needed to be a situation where Rick Peterson overrules Willie’s call to bring in Wagner. On paper, it seems smart to bring in your closer and really shut them down, but Sanchez rolled through the 8th, he’s used to throwing 2 innings and would have been as favorable a matchup against the hitters as Wagner would have. Save Wagner for when/if Sanchez gets in trouble.
I put this all on Willie.

  8. I thought that Sanchez might start the 9th with Wagner backing him up if the tying run came on deck. Either way, it was obvious that Wagner should have come out a batter earlier. He had no command at all.

  9. What was that?
    WHAT WAS THAT?
Complete joke , but i don’t get the punchline .
When Wright had that hit I was all smiles I thought the boy is back , 2 days in a row .
    Wake me up in November.

  10. At this point in time Willie needs to stop giving Wagner the benefit of the doubt until Wagner proves that he can close out games consistently.

  11. Huge win for the Mets!
(I’m glad the Red Sox beat the Phils also)
    No major news here!

  12. I agree that the loss on Saturday was all on Willie. He tries to be like Joe Torre. We are not the Yankees, we have potential to be far greater but we need some creativity in there.

When a starter is performing, leave him in there! Just cause it’s the eighth doesn’t mean you have to go to the “set-up man.” Just cause it’s the ninth doesn’t mean you have to go to the “closer.”

He wasted a good performance by Pedro, and after the game was blown wasted Feliciano (when he really could have won the game for us) and Bradford on what could have been a much longer game.

Also I think the Alay Soler move is just horrible, I am totally unimpressed with the man.

So I am glad we took 2 out of 3 from the Yanks – certainly shuts up some of the loudmouths around the office today – but now we are staring at the Phils for 3 games and not a clue of how we are going to tame the bats of Abreu, Victorino, Utley and Lieberthal.

  13. Alrighty. See, the neighbors are Yankee fans. And I was planning to sweep their driveway when we swept the Yankees. Oh, no, then Billy Wagner came in. That was the most enraging thing I have witnessed since the LAST time he blew it. Pedro was perfect. We got some good runs. I think Wille Randolph should have maybe just taken Wagner out when he walked two guys in a row. Thank goodness we won the other two, two outta three ain’t bad. But now we have to figure out how to beat the Phillies. Uh oh.
